D. Gray-Man 70 – Why So Serious?

You guess it, this episode debuts Allen’s Crowned Clown form thus the title of this post. Previously, a Level 3 Akuma has just infiltrated the Eastern Black Order HQ. Because of this, Fou imitates Allen for them to give time to escape BUT Allen, being so good and all, instead of escaping, he went to fight the Level 3 Akuma and in this episode, their battle continues.

The battles between the akuma and Allen are intense, with the akuma having the upperhand and Allen, on the verge of disintegrating himself due to the akuma’s ability. At the end of their first battle, Allen sunk in the water found in the battlefield. However, during in that state, Allen slowly realizes the reason for his fighting.

In this episode, we saw how Bak cared so much about Fou that there are two instances that we saw how much Bak cared about her. First is when he saw her injured and went to comfort her. Second when she shielded Fou when the akuma attacked her, causing Bak to disintegrate himself in the process. Thinking about it makes wanna raise my eyebrow considering that Fou is older than Bak.

As Allen is realizing about why he is fighting for the akuma’s salvation but aside from that, he also realizes that he must also fight for the safety of the humans, causing his Innocence to react, and now, it has its own shape in a form of a mask white a white cloak. Cool. The fun thing about Allen’s Innocence is that it has its own mind that it protected Fou and Bak when the akuma attacked them for the second time.

Allen’s Crowned Clown form was awesome. However, like all Super Modes in anime, it made Allen looked like a Super Saiyan for starters. But the best thing about his Innocence aside from the fact that he looked like Ichigo from Bleach activating his Bankai, his new claw looks awesome. I mean, it reminded me of Edward Scissorhands because of his left arm… and E.T. because on how he pointed the akuma’s forehead in one scene.

His new way of exorcising the akuma was really screams, “The power of Christ compels you.” due to Allen making a sign of the cross on the akuma. However, since this is the first time we saw Allen’s new arm, I never got to chance to see it in its full potential. By full potential, is to see how strong it is.

Overall, the debut of Allen’s Crowned Clown form was great but my only problem is the fact that its Crowned Clown form was never seen in its full potential plus, the build up on the Crowned Clown form was not that properly given. Why? Because even if we saw Allen train to regain his Innocence, but the build up was for Allen to regain his good ol’ claw and arm cannon not for his Super Mode.

His Super Mode was something that surprised me at some point considering that it never had a proper build up. Its only build up was the fact that it is Allen’s Innocence true form. That’s it.
