Puffy Guest Stars on Usagi Drop

The Japanese rock duo, Puffy or better known as PuffyAmiYumi in the West will be guest stars on the Usagi Drop anime's 9th episode which will air on September 1st!

Ami Onuki and Yumi Yoshimura will play children's afterschool caretakers who were designed by the Usagi Drop manga creator Yumi Unita. Puffy's last voice acting roles were in the 2006 slice-of-life anime Hataraki Man.

After the recording, Yumi commented, "I was surprised at how everyone’s voice carried through; even the kids do it really well. I was like a borrowed cat (quiet and meek)." Ami stated, "Pros are amazing. I was nervous from the pressure." Ami has three lines and Yumi has six lines, but the duo took about two hours to record their lines.

"The highlight is PUFFY’s parts. It was a great change," said Yumi, promoting themselves. Ami also added, "If possible, I want them to skip my part... but I did my best, so please watch it."

The duo has performed various anime theme songs, including the opening for Usagi Drop titled Sweet Drops, which is also the theme song of the upcoming live-action adaptation of the said anime which will this August 23rd.

For most of the Western viewers, the group was known in a cartoon called, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, which ran from 2004 to 2006, was based on the musical lives of the duo. Puffy performed the theme song for that show as well as for Cartoon Network's Teen Titans, which is known for its quirky artwork that's heavily inspired by anime.
