Fakes and Copy-Pastas!

Philip knows what you are doing...

This week is rather a fun (?) week for fake Facebook fan pages and people copy-pasting contents coming from a blog without doing proper credit to its hard-working writers, which leads me to quote a line coming from one of my favorite manga titles, Gimmick!

“We work day and night and she pays me peanuts.” – Kohei Nagase, SFX make-up artist

Where do I start, oh yes, the people who copy-paste content from the other blog that I am working at, JEFusion. To those who don’t know the site, it means you are not interested that much in tokusatsu or some of its other content such as anime news and the like. You see, while looking for a decent OOO Sagozo Combo image, I saw a blog with the exact content like that of JEFusion.

From every hyperlink to every Kamen Rider related article, it is really copy pasted. This isn’t the first time I saw the same thing, I also saw other blogs who does the same thing…but the big difference is the fact that he never credits our blog much! He credits JEFusion as this: [His name] and thanks to JEFusion something. Come on! We worked hard to give you articles that sound professional by those people who never took journalism classes (Well, that is my case, not sure, if Geki takes journalism classes...)! That is the thanks that we get?! At least it is better compared to other blogs that I saw that never gave credit!

Geki confronted the guy and he replied that he is just a fan of our work that is why he copies every bit of our article into his blog. I find it not supporting JEFusion. If I would make it in an anime sense, you can consider yourself supporting the anime if you watch it legally or buy its official merchandise. Copy pasting an entire article without making proper credit is simply plagiarizing someone’s work, which is a complete violation of GekiDan and UkiyaSeed’s intellectual property rights!

Geki is taking actions with the guy and the other fan page that copy pastes our work. There’s another page that does it but accordingly, he will stop. Hope he will indeed stop.

Now on the recent events that happened in our official fan page, to those who don’t know, most fan pages were attacked by a certain user named Michael something and at first, he created a fake Anime Pinas Network fan page. After it closed, he created a fake ZEN Otaku Honbu fan page and now, he created a fake Orends: Range fan page!

As I said in my status update, it simply means that we are making a presence in the Pinoy Anime Community and that alone is enough to tell me that even if we have few fans in our Facebook account or less views of the blog coming from the Philippines (We have more views… IN AMERICA!), it simply means that people want to imitate us.

So, like the other fake Facebook fan pages before it, report the fake fan page so that it would not confuse those people who will follow our Facebook account. To those who has just read this article, here is the link of our official fanpage: http://www.facebook.com/orendsrange

Why do the action? You see the internet is the new Wild West, no rules but it doesn’t mean that you should not maintain order; hence, there are sheriffs around to maintain this lawless place with bounty hunter to hunt down the rule breakers. So…

See you later, cyberspace cowboy.

Anime Compression in a Nutshell

 This article in pictures

Anime compression, it’s a process of shortening an anime program that last for 20-24 without commercials into 15-20 minutes at minimum to put more spaces for ads not related to the show… such as laundry soap or soap opera commercials. Unlike abridging whose purpose is to shorten the anime program while keeping the theme and putting some pop culture references for the sake of fun, compression is about placing as many episodes as possible and air it on one episode.

The only way for you to watch the extracted version is if the company releases official DVD’s or re-air the title on their sister station. Here is the brief history about it. In case you want to add something in here, just post your comment.

Its roots can be traced sometime in the early Y2K decade in which some titles such as Yu Yu Hakusho had its opening and ending credits shortened within 30 seconds. I was happy back then since I want to see more action and not listen to the Japanese OP and ED. It was the practice on most anime titles that aired. Until Pokemon Master Quest came into picture.

The first episode of the said Pokemon season, an episode that was suppose to air just for one day aired for two days. The reason for the delay, 15 minutes of advertisements and 15 minutes worth of the show. This was the practice on Pokemon until they decided to eliminate the OP sequence and ED sequence. But still, it doesn’t satisfy their standards!

Pokemon was just the experimental stage, same with the other new titles that aired on the said station. The one who perfected it was their rival… yes they perfected it.

If you haven’t watched the original Japanese airing of Katekyo Hitman Reborn, you will not notice the amount of cuts they made for them to fit two episodes of KHR in one sitting. It was clean single episode if you are a mindless 4 or 7 year old kid who watched it but if you are an otaku, you’ll easily notice it. This later happened on Eyeshield 21 and Naruto Shippuden with Naruto, based on the comments found in the internet had 3 episodes aired in a 30-minute timeslot!

About their rival? They were able to air four anime titles in a one-hour timeslot, namely, from 9:30-10:30am.

This is not an accurate history since I only based it on my personal experience while watching anime on free TV.

Sure, there is cable but not all people can afford cable. Sure, there is the net but it is illegal unless you watch it on Crunchyroll but not all people can afford to rent a PC for 3-5 hours just to watch all the episodes that the TV station compressed in one sitting. Why I still and most people watch anime on free TV?

The reason why still people who have watched the anime that aired on TV even if they got the chance to watch it back then it is because they are supporting the official release. Since they know what they are doing is a form of piracy which steals the efforts the animators did and they watched it on the wrong place, namely not on their TV with ads streaming after an eye catch. In addition, they also knew that there are no plans on releasing the official DVDs which is another way on supporting the title.

I know that advertisements are the blood that runs the TV station but do not let the number of ads suffer the quality of programming you will give to your audience. To be honest, it felt like the big guns are cheating on their consumers. I mean, these people in the eyes of almost everyone are credible in airing high quality programming! Why don’t you give this kind of quality to your anime audience that still supports you even if they know that they are cheated with their time because they get less of what is suppose to be more.

Rumor Mill: Gokusen Remake?!

There is a rumor circulating on the web that GMA will do a remake on Gokusen. To those who remembered, all three seasons of the said live-action aired on GMA, and it includes the Graduation Special on the first season.

Because of this, it alarmed me. I mean, a Gokusen remake? The last time they did a remake or a spin-off of a Japanese show *cough*Zaido*cough*, it flopped and the international Tokusatsu community were enraged on the result.

Just today, I saw this.

Sure, it is clearly a Photoshop'ed photo but if the executives from GMA will see this, it might create a spark to remake it. Hope it might not happen.

Special thanks to GMA Anime Authority DAW!/Daw Jones for the information, and Anime Pinas Network for the photo!

A Year of Random Thoughts.

Blame this guy for the name of the blog! Blame him!

As you can see, Orends: Range is now a year older! The name was just pun of Orends and Jeremiah Gottwald’s nickname and the band Orange Range, the first few articles were written out of boredom and as I check some of the archives, the blog evolved from unorganized random thoughts to a News Blog (To be exact, Anime whether here or abroad and Toku  News Blog), Daily Life Blog (Because of Twitter and Plurk, I rarely write something about my life), A Review Blog and anything random that will pop-up in my head, and the latest thing that popped out in my head, a series of articles called, Kamen Rider Decade COMPLETE Review… and I thought I will be writing in this blog for the sake of lulz!

To commemorate its first year, I decided to change the header. As you notice, all three characters had one thing in common… they ruined something. Casshern killed Luna, Decade destroyed a franchise and Kefka, ruined the balance. So yeah.

Since this blog has reached its 1st year, expect more things to come in the near future!

PC Monitor is STILL Dead. Bummer.

If you are noticing that I didn't right reviews or Ukiya Was Bored articles due to this fact. My PC monitor is blurry thus, I can't right reviews or articles... and I can't finish Final Fantasy due to that! Even I am renting a computer in a internet cafe, there is no Microsoft Word OR Adobe Photoshop, so... yeah. I can't do a thing. LOL. Planning to repair it last Saturday BUT the repair shop that I knew is closed and now a barber shop. Great. If only those guys know how to repair my monitor! I have no choice but to check the only repair shop that I know here in Bacolod City... near the University. Great. I need to spend a total of Php 20 for the fare plus, I must check the price. Good thing I have more than 3 hours of free time!
