Eyeshield 21

Eyeshield 21 is a manga series by Riichiro Inagaki (writer) and Yusuke Murata (artist) about football...American football.  The name of the manga comes from the main character, Sena.  He's a short guy who initially uses his quick speed and agility to avoid bullies.  However, he catches the eye of his school's American football team coach who recruits him as a running back.  To keep him from being courted by other schools, Sena's face is hidden under an eyeshield on his helmet (hence the name "Eyeshield 21").

I really like Yusuke Murata's manga artwork.  He was an apprentice under Takeshi Obata (the amazing artist of Death Note and Hikaru no Go) and it shows.

Eyeshield 21 is still ongoing in Japan and it spawned a lengthy (145 episodes!) anime series.  Viz Media is currently releasing the manga in America and the anime version was available for a while on Toonami Jetstream.  I'm not quite sure if/when the anime version will hit DVD.
