GokaiRed Gold Mode in DiceOh Action!

Here's GokaiRed Gold Mode in action as seen in DiceOh Arcade game. It is not sure if we will see GokaiRed wearing GokaiSilver's Gold Mode armor in the main series. The video also features GokaiSilver in action.

Too bad, GokaiRed Gold Mode wasn't seen using the Gokai Legend Dream finisher in this video.

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger 23 – Peoples’ Lives Are the Future of the Earth

Also known as Fabulous Basco IV: Basco and Friends! In this episode, for the first time, Gai wasn’t able to figure out what Navi is talking about and now becomes part of the team’s biweekly routine of aimlessly looking for the Grand Power. Asides from Basco’s return, this episode contains many girl power moments.

Many fans wondered why Luka was so protective towards Ahim that it later led to shipping called, Luka x Ahim. This episode cleared that misconception that Luka is tomboy for Ahim, turned out that she has a little sister (sona ka ono hajimaite…) named Fia and she wasn’t able to bring her to a doctor when she was sick, and thus psychology wise, she instead carry her emotions of guilt by being overprotective towards Ahim. Speaking of which, the episode also serves as Ahim’s character development episode as she tries to prove in front of Luka that she is not her little sister that she is some pirate princess.

Compared to the other girl power episodes that I watched, it was not that impressive but it was not that bad. I just loved that they transformed into various sibling related Sentai teams (namely, Magiranger, Fiveman and GoGo V), but it wasn’t that it didn’t sold me less the Fiveman Gokai Change in which I suddenly remembered my old crush, Five Yellow or was it Pink. And the last Magiranger Gokai Change, boy, Ahim proves that she is indeed a Pink Ranger!

For the actual tribute itself, it never felt like a GoGo V tribute in my opinion, sure, we have Matsuri aka Go Pink but she does not have that impact of a mentor figure compared to her brothers, especially if we are talking about Matoi. I mean, she was just… there and didn’t give anything special to the episode asides from her presence and saying the episode title! Remove Matsuri out of the picture, and it would be one average filler episode. Also, the “sibling plot” felt a bit advance in some point since I find it best if they just use that plot in the Fiveman tribute.

As for the GoGo V Gokai Change, I knew it, Gai’s imagination can’t create a Go Titanium/Go Silver/Titanium Ranger/Insert Name of Possible Japanese name of Titanium Ranger here Ranger Key! I mean, he is a Sentai fan and doesn’t watch Power Rangers, so yeah. Now back to the fight, I just love that the GoGo V theme being played in the background, it adds a heroic feel in the battle that they should save the Earth and save lives because they are the Rescue Sentai GoGo V. As for the GoGo V Grand Power, understandable since Victory Robo’s main body base is a fire truck, so I am not surprised that the GokaiOh will have water hoses attached to its body.

Now to Basco, I just loved that he tries other approaches in getting the Grand Powers. If doing a direct approach won’t work, then do an indirect one and fool the enemy that Zangyack is the one responsible for it! Lastly, I just love his choice for Ranger Keys this time! I mean, Rio and Mele had long history of being the bad guys before helping the Gekirangers fight Long at the show’s last 3-5 episodes and prior to that, they occasionally helped the Gekirangers if they have no other options left, like when they were transported to Hong Kong or when they were transported back in the past. As for the use of Zubaan… well, my only memory about the guy is him forcing himself to be Boukenger’s Seventh Ranger and if you consider Power Rangers, him being hammy most of the time.

Special thanks to That Chick's That Toku Blog for the images, been busy lately so I wasn't able to get my own screencaps.

Joh Ohara/Yellow Lion Returns on Gokaiger!

Kazuhiko Nishimura who plays Joh Ohara aka Yellow Lion in Choujuu Sentai Liveman is confirmed to return in the Liveman tribute episode on Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger!

The confirmation was made in his blog that he just had wardrobe fitting for the show, possibly to recreate his character's "Miami Vice-style" outfit. The Liveman tribute episode is directed by Katsuya Watanabe. This would be the second confirmation of a pre-Zyuranger Sentai tribute episode being made. The first was with Toshihide Wakamatsu's confirmation of Gai Yuki/Black Condor's return on Gokaiger.

Also, the release date for the Gokaiger - Goseiger - Super Sentai: 199 Hero Great Battle DVD is confirmed to be released this late November! So expect fansubs to be released during December.

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger 22 - Shooting Stars, Dinosaurs and Joe's Grocery

I don't wanna close my eyes, I don't wanna fall asleep cause I miss you babe, and I don't wanna miss a thing~! Sorry, can't help it.

Since Kamen Rider OOO is about to end, why not name this review based on the show's naming pattern... or I am just lazy to give a name for this review. Anyways, the episode marks the debut of the Super Sentai Encyclopedia, a guide made by Gai for the crew so that they won't mess up or mistook this team into that team (like what happened in the previous episode) but nope, it is not the main focus of this episode, but the kid who made a promise with his friend to watch a meteor shower one year later. Wait a minute, how did they know that there would be a meteor shower one year later?!

This episode is basically, filler which shows Joe's "admiration" towards people who are similar to Marvelous, people who are determined to fulfill their dreams even if in the midst of danger. I like this part, but what I hate about this filler is the kid, I didn't feel his character overall that in some point, I am quite annoyed with his presence which reminded me of the first episode of Zyuranger which the Zyurangers were awakened in the real world, not just to stop Bandora, but to save two kids inside a space shuttle! What's more is that what's the logic behind sending kids to outerspace in space mission?! Now back to the episode, sure the story was a bit lame, but the episode shows to us that Gil is quite a competent leader that he didn't let Stargle to die and instead just turn him into a giant so that the he can still have control over the giant asteroid.

More about the episode, a lot of scenes in this episode are truly worth watching, such as the out of suit fights, though not as good as episode 13 nor the Koichi Sakamoto episodes, but still good. My only problem with it is that the pacing of the fights was a bit slow. More on the "truly worth watching scenes" the entrance of the GokaiOh was amazing, and so does the entrance of the GouZyu* Drill and the GaoLion. It looks simple, and at the same time stunning, and those scenes are just the icing on the cake! To top this episode's "worth watching scenes" that would be the the Shinken GokaiOh throwing the GouZyuJin in outer space and used its drill to pierce the asteroid till it breaks! What's more is that the scene prior to that felt like a scene from Armageddon in which Bruce Willis decided to sacrifice his life instead of the life of his daughter's boyfriend! Take note, I was singing "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" I was watching the scene.

Overall, it was an average filler episode with a lot of epic scenes, blame the irritating kid. Also, I still love the fact that Joe still doesn't care what's the difference between a Dinosaur Sentai and a Burstosaur or if you prefer, Bakuryu Sentai since they both have dinosaurs in it.

* Will be using GouZyu from now on since there is no proper romanization for the name of GokaiSilver's mecha and also, to put more impact on the mecha's Zyuranger reference.

Hurricaneger Tribute: Pirates vs. Ninjas!

After we got the confirmation that the three ninjas of the Hayate Ninja Academy will return for the Hurricaneger tribute in Gokaiger, more info about why the three of them appeared surfaced the web along with a very interesting picture of Matsuri owning Basco!

Zangyank suddenly dispatches 2 Action Commanders that are completely different from the rest. The 2 of them, called Satarakura Jr. and Sandaaru Jr. (voiced by Bin Shimada and Shuichi Ikeda), appears before the Gokaigers. The Gokaigers who have never fought against Space Ninjas are in big pinch. Suddenly 3 shadows appear before them.

The 3 shadows are revealed to be the former Hurricangers. They murmur that the Space Ninjas can't be defeated without Hurricanger's greater power, but they don't trust the Gokaigers. Which is why they are hesitating on giving them Hurricangers greater power. The 3 Hurricangers takes their Ranger Keys and plan on saving the Earth.

Also, here are the summaries for the upcoming weeks:

Episode 24: Foolish Earthlings
Gai wants to take the crew out to eat some takoyaki. Jealoushit was thrown out from Zangyack together with their garbage, Jealoushit was taken in as a pet by an owner of a takoyaki stand. After spending so much time there, he remembers how to make takoyaki.

When the Gokaiger's meets Jealoushit again, Don feels like Jealoushit is more like a disciple rather than a pet. Jealoushit tells the Gokaiger's that his dream is now to open up the first space takoyaki stand. Also, the Action Commander Senden appears.

The writer of the Carranger tribute episode returns to write this episode. Guess I will expect some shenanigans then.

Episode 25: Pirates and Ninjas
Satarakura Jr. and Sandaaru Jr. starts wrecking havoc by turning people into chestnuts. Satarakura. Jr is collecting these chestnuts for some reason. The Gokaigers are having trouble fighting the Space Ninjas. But suddenly, 3 other ninjas appear.

Episode 26: Shushuuto THE SPECIAL
Marvelous, Luka and Joe are transported to Satarakura Jr.'s "Boki Space." Yousuke, Nanami and Kouta break into the Boki Space, while Marvelous falls into the worst situation.

Episode 27: A More Than Usual Gokai Change
After receiving an electric shock from Action Commander Regaeru's attack, Luka and Don aren't able to fight properly. The two of them switched bodies.

And as a bonus, here's the latest trailer of the upcoming Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger the Movie: The Flying Ghost Ship movie which will be released this August 6th. Take note, embedding is disable in this video, so click this link.

Ryota Ozawa and Mao Ichimichi in a Relatioship?!

As we all know, Mao Ichimichi likes 2D guys but one Japanese gossip site disagrees with it since she was spotted kissing her fellow Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger co-star, Ryota Ozawa who plays Captain Marvelous!

According to what I have figured out from the gossip site, the two are on the date and do what most couples do during a date, shopping and etc. they later shared a passionate kiss at the end of their date. But since this picture looks a bit blurry, I decided to check their official blogs for any hints that these two are indeed in a relationship, but failed.

So what do you guys think? Is it these two pirates? I am not surprised if this is true since the two might become this close since both are in the same show. Also, in case this is true, this is not the first time that both Sentai cast members are in a relationship. As far as I can recall, Five Yellow and Five Black are married to each other in real life.

UPDATE: Special thanks to Windmaster Hiroaki's comment on JEFusion's official fanpage for the translation of the text from the gossip site. I took bits of his translation into this post since the original text contains a lot of side comments from the original author.

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger 21 – The Heart of an Adventurer

In this episode, Marvelous is irritated because Basco now has a way on getting a Grand Power ahead of them and thus, is forcing Navi to tell the next prophecy until Satoru Akashi aka BoukenRed makes his appearance and asked a bunch of space pirates to look for a Precious with him!

Before talking about the actual episode, firstly, the episode cemented the fact that the Gokaigers earned 11 Grand Powers during the events of the 199 Hero Great Battle movie and those who appeared in “spirit form” in the movie are quite aware about them passing a Grand Power on these pirates. To those who are not aware about the powers that were unlocked in the movie, they are: Goranger (Variblune), JAKQ, Denziman, Google-V, Dynaman, Bioman, Turboranger, Dairanger, Boukenger (DaiBouken’s Spirit Form), Go-Onger (Engine Machalon, which will appear on their tribute episode) and Goseiger (All Header Great Charge). Those enclosed inside the parenthesis are their respective Grand Powers, and so far, we know about four powers, one we saw in the movie (Goranger) and three which we saw or we will saw in the series, namely, Goseiger, Go-Onger (which we will see in the upcoming weeks) and Boukenger, which we will see in this episode. Now, let’s talk about the actual episode!

If there is one thing that bothered me in this episode is why Akashi bothered asking a bunch of space pirates to look for some Precious if he has his own crew of treasure hunters? But after watching the episode, it seems that he wants to “awaken” what was lost with Marvelous after the events of previous episode which I don’t need to explain what the hell happened in that episode. To those who are wondering what did Marvelous lost, that would be the spirit of adventure, the adrenalin in looking for a Grand Power in which he nor his crew knows where to look for it; that in which Marvelous does it for the sake of his dream and not for some competition with his former crewmate. If there is one thing that disappoints me is that, they didn’t do any proper build-up in this episode on Marvelous’ frustration regarding Basco’s new found power stealing abilities.

Another thing that I liked about this episode is Luka, yes, you all know that I have a crush for her but in this episode, we really saw her love for adventure and most especially what will they obtain at the end, a treasure. As for the rest of the gang, I love that Joe doesn’t care on what team they are using, all he knows that its all the same for him. In this episode’s case, Gai transformed into Shurikenger, an ally of the Hurricanegers, a group of ninjas while the rest transformed into the Kakurangers, another group of ninjas about eight years older than the Hurricanegers and uses a lot of classy Adam West Batman special effects. And yes, they still use those effects and now has updates in terms of graphics! The “shu shu shu shu” sound effect looks sharper compared to the original effect years ago.

As for the return of Satoru Akashi in this episode, to be honest, I haven’t watched any Boukenger but I was impressed on his appearance in this episode. What’s more is that he clearly acted like a mentor figure towards Marvelous and Luka during the episode. What’s more is that even out of suit, he never fails to impress me. I mean, he was able to enter the Gokai Galleon and most of the time it’s docked in the sky for Pete’s sake! That takes a lot of guts just to climb on that airship without your superpowers! Also, as for the Boukenger-related mecha, which is basically the spirit of the DaiBouken and later, for its finisher, its sword the GoGoKen, I am fine with it since first, Boukenger is an anniversary series and it deserves something big that is related to its series. Take for instance in Gaoranger’s case, the actual GaoLion and as for Carranger’s case… that is the pose and the Gokai Radical Racing Slash move. Note, both shows are anniversary shows, guess I should expect something big from the previous anniversary seasons.

Overall, for the first tribute episode in which they have unlocked the Grand Power from the movie, it was good and set the standard for the later episodes which involves this case, namely the expected Go-Onger tribute and the other episodes in which we haven’t seen the Grand Power yet.

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger 20 – The Lost Forest

Also known as Fabulous Basco III! In this episode, Gai’s Sentai fanboyism reached new heights as they were able to figure out what team are they looking for and Gai’s first encounter of an actual Sentai member that is not a Gokaiger! Also, Hyuga wants to be GokaiSilver! Wait, didn’t his team fought space pirates?

I have been waiting weeks just to see this kind of interaction happen since the Carranger tribute episode in which we have equal amounts of Sentai Veteran action and equal amounts of current team action! In this episode’s case, they were able to connect Gai’s character development with the guest Sentai Veteran, in this case, with Hyuga. Okay, they did it with a couple of veterans before (namely the Dekaranger one), but one thing I noticed is that, the interactions between Gai and Hyuga seemed more personal compared to the previous tribute episodes which has this pattern, wonder around aimlessly, accidentally meet the veteran and get the power. Wash, rinse then repeat. Because of Gai’s involvement in this one, it broke this pattern and instead, they now have a clue on what they are looking for and they don’t have to wait for the hero to pop-out of nowhere, making this tribute quite dynamic compared to the rest.

Now for the tribute itself, I liked it. To be honest, I never saw any Gingaman but I saw Teruaki Ogawa in Kakuranger as Ninja Red, Sasuke so I was surprised that he has a very distinct tone as Hyuga. To those who haven’t watched Kakuranger, Sasuke’s voice sounds like Ban of Dekaranger except it’s deeper. As for the character, Hyuga, I love the fact that he secretly tested Gai if he is worthy to be GokaiSilver after Hyuga saw his lack of self-confidence, something that his brother, Ryoma doesn’t have years ago when he took the role of GingaRed after Hyuga “died.” How did I know all about that? Wikipedia and lurking on various forums and blogs (or blog), oh, and did you know that Hikaru aka GingaYellow’s favorite snack is donuts? Guess Hikaru will immediately accept these space pirates!

Now to the man of the hour, Basco; his return is one of the reasons why I love this episode. Even if he doesn’t have Navi, or the Gokai Galleon to aid in his quest in looking for the greatest treasure of the entire universe, he was able to find a way on how can he get a Grand Power. I dunno how did he figure out the proper tone to extract the Grand Power, which my guess, he tried it on to some past Veteran or like every guy who has a brass instrument, practiced till he finds the perfect tone; but hey, at least he is now even towards the Gokaigers in terms of treasure hunting equipment.

Asides from Basco’s return, he was able to summon four Extra Ranger Keys, namely, DekaMaster, Wolzard Fire, MagiMother and later, Black Knight. I just loved that the first three summonses can handle the Gokaigers evenly and at the end, able to beat them. But I was surprised that Marvelous was able to handle the three warriors in his civilian form. That was quite a surprise. And lastly, Ryoma’s appearance, it was short and it’s quite similar to Ban’s appearance in the Dekaranger tribute, and yes, I am quite disappointed with it.

Overall, it was a good tribute episode and probably, one of the memorable ones as well since Basco now proves to us that even with the lack of proper equipment, he can still match and out match the Gokaigers if he wants to. As for Gai’s first adventure in looking for the Grand Powers, it was fun and you can actually see the level of his dedication towards Sentai that he is armed with everything that is related to it. Namely, the picture book (which accordingly, might be written by the Gingamen’s writer friend) and a pen, in case he will meet a veteran and ask them to sign his picture book. Jokes aside, he finally proves to us viewers that he is not fooling around and not just living the dream of becoming a Sentai warrior, but he is serious about it that he is willing to shove Hyuga just to get his Gokai Cellular.

And since Hyuga appeared in the episode, in case of a Kakuranger episode and Sasuke is set to appear, will Gai break the fourth wall and do comments that Hyuga and Sasuke looked alike? That is unless Sasuke is wearing his civilian clothes and not his ninja gear. Did I mention that part of Sasuke’s civilian attire is a bandana?

Hurricaneger Returns to Gokaiger!

It was previously rumored that the Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger tribute episode will have the three Hurricanegers as guest stars. Just recently, it is confirmed that Shun Shioya, Nao Nagasawa and Kohei Yamamoto are set to return in Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger!

Asides from the return of Yousuke Shiina/Hurricane Red, Nanami Nono/Hurricane Blue and Kouta Bitou/Hurricane Yellow, descendants of the villains, Sandaru and Satorakura, namely, Sandaru Jr. and Satorakura Jr. will appear as well. It was later revealed in the recent scans that our Gokaigers will fight alongside with these three ninjas! It is not revealed on how the three got their Ranger Keys, but I am hoping that they will steal those keys from our pirates!

The tribute episode will also be the debut of the Gokai Machine, FuuRaiMaru. It is modeled after the original FuuRaiMaru stores in GokaiOh by dividing into 5. Unfolding gimmick in both GokaiOh arms. Out of the feet appear 3-sided Shuriken. Out of the chest comes a Senpuujin head/helmet. Both Shurikens can unite into a bigger weapon which GokaiOh can hold. The name of its finisher of the HurricaneGokaiOh is the Shuriken Strike.

So where are the images for this episode? According to our source, DecaEnd, he will stop uploading pictures. Now you understand why you should credit your sources! But later on, we have new scans coming from a different source!

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger 19 – You Jelly, Don-san?

So what’s with the –san honorific at the title? That’s for emphasis on how Gai calls our resident Doctor! Anyways, the episode is basically a standard “I hate the new guy because he made this/that/me look bad” kind of thing. Oh, and Gold Mode makes it debut.

Doc has every right to get jealous on Gai. Asides that he has his own mecha, his own personalized changer, and can fight well in his civilian state, the fact that he is just a newbie gives more reasons why Doc is jealous of him. I mean, you are the third longest member of Marvelous’ crew, and what do you get? A bounty on your head worth 5,000 and the first person that the crew can rely on in terms of non-pirate stuff such as cooking or examining a space rock. His slow warming up on Gai as the new member of the team was rushed in my opinion because it wasn’t that believable in my opinion.

I mean, if you look at Ryunosuke and Genta’s case, Ryunosuke showed open resentment since day 1 that he doesn’t want a sushi vendor to be a samurai. The later focus episode about the two justified and Genta tried his best just for Ryunosuke to see that he is indeed a samurai. Oh, and the fact that I didn’t notice in the end that Ryunosuke already accepted Genta made the scene looked natural in my taste. In the case of Doc and Gai, Doc finally recognized Gai after Navi told Doc what happened during yesterday’s clean up… and that’s about it?!

As for the Gold Mode, I rather have it than to see a new costume based on the notable elements of all 15 Warriors. The only thing that bothered me is the flaps in the armor, which looked weird during battle. For the finisher, probably the best finishers the series has. As for Gai’s imagination powers, it didn’t make much proper sense, but hey, it’s Sentai in which the city of Tokyo is fully reconstructed after one giant monster attack within one week.

Overall, it was a fun episode, but it felt rushed in some angles and didn’t have any proper build up in terms of Doc’s resentment towards Gai save for Gai calling him “Don” in the previous episode that is which I find one shallow reason to hate the guy.
