XTREEEME... SHF Edition.
A sequel to the first Ukiya Was Bored article, and since Kamen Rider W as just ended, and my boredom decided to strike again. I decided to compile all the possible references, homages, or anything that screams old school coming from Kamen Rider W. Aside from that, please don’t be surprised that I will be reusing some of the things that I listed in my previous article for those who haven’t read it. To start with, here’s Kamen Rider W’s opening theme, W~B~X - Double Boiled Extreme by Aya Kamiki and TAKUYA.
Let’s get this show on the road!
Kamen Rider
- W CycloneJoker’s color scheme screams like the color scheme of the original Riders, green and black.
- Speaking of the original Riders, Rider 1 and Rider 2 is usually referred to as Double Riders. Fast forward to 2009, we have a Rider if you decided to call him in old school (Name then the suffix, Rider) we have Double Rider.
- When W CycloneJoker Xtreme first debuted, we have a close-up of the Xtreme Memory spinning. Take note, that in the original series, it is part of the transformation sequence to have a close-up on the Typhoon Rider Belt spinning. Speaking of which, accordingly, the name of W CJX’s belt is XTyphoon.
- Foundation X in some point screams like the group behind the organization in this series, Museum. Much like how the Great Leader in the old days acted, in the shadows.
- Masquerade Dopants are like the original Shocker foot soldiers… except that they wear SUITS.
- If you look at W CylconeJoker’s finisher, Joker Extreme, it looks like two Rider Kicks coming from two guys. Fast forward to Xtreme Form, its finisher is called, Double Extreme. Speaking of double Rider Kicks, we have Rider Twin Maximum.
- Calling the name of the attacks the Rider will make. Nuff said.
- (Accidentally pointed out by Ryan Disillusioned) The stripes in the middle of W resembles the stripes of Rider 1.
- (Again pointed out by Ryan Disillusioned) W's helmet resembles the original helmet design of the Double Riders except its sleeker. Also, it has those "fangs" in the mouth area.
- In Movie Wars Core, Kamen Rider Skull will face a Spider and a Bat Dopant. These two are the first monsters Kamen Rider has faced.

Kamen Rider V3
- In Movie Wars 2010, Decade decided to split W into half, using Final Form Ride: Kamen Rider W. Because of the split, we have W CycloneCylcone and W JokerJoker. CycloneCylcone carries two scarves, and powered by two Cyclone Memories. To those who don’t know, V3 is powered by a belt which is composed of the technique and power of the original Riders, hence the two fans in the belt. Also, he dons two scarves.
- Speaking of two scarves, Nasca Dopant dons two scarves.
- Accel’s back-story kinda resembles V3 and both have the same motivation into becoming a Rider.
- EXE is kinda like Destron. Both where formed from the remnants of the previous organization. But unlike Destron, EXE is definitely a remnant of the former organization considering that they just use the Gaia Memories that where left after the fall of Museum.
- Philip was dead before the series started… and was resurrected. Speaking of which, Riderman died in the series… and was resurrected off screen.
- Speaking of Riderman, Kirihiko is kinda like Joji. Both once worked for the bad guys and they are best respectively, after realizing that they are working for the wrong people (For Joji's case, after being Riderman for quite some time), they officially defect the bad guys that caused them to sacrifice their own lives.
Kamen Rider X
- W HeatMetal’s color scheme screams like the color scheme of Kamen Rider X, plus both wield a rod.
Kamen Rider Amazon
- The shape of Accel’s belt resembles the shape of the Condora, except it is not a utility belt.
- The design of Claydoll Xtreme is a mix between the color scheme of AU Ten-Faced Demon, Llhumu Quimil and the shape of the original Ten-Faced Demon, Gorgos. I am serious! I mean, the big head, the large base thing, plus it floats!
New Kamen Rider
- A flying Nasca Dopant with two scarves, nuff said.
Kamen Rider Super-1
- W’s ability to cope in various situations using various Memory combos kinda resembles Super-1 and his ability to switch hands to vary in various situations.
Kamen Rider BLACK
- Three words. Kamen Rider Joker.
- A possible synonym for cleric is priest/priestess. Accordingly, Wakana is the cleric of the Earth, substitute cleric, we have priestess of the Earth… and in All Riders vs. DaiShocker, AU Bishium is the brother of the series’ Rider, Decade plus, both are cute.
- You can say that Saeko kinda resembles Birugenia later on in the series due to their ambitions. Plus, Saeko was able to wield a sword thanks to the Nasca Memory.
- You can say that both Isaka and Birugenia wants to be the top of their respective food chains even if they don’t have the same methods.
- There is one episode about a song called, Mogrog that caused men to be hypnotized by the moe factor of the song. It turned out to be that a pop star who sung that song turned out to be working with Gorgom. In W, we have a DJ named Wakana, who has just released a single, Naturally that caused Shotaro and Philip to act a little not normal and Wakana turned out to be working with the Museum.
Kamen Rider BLACK RX
- W LunaTrigger’s color scheme is a possible fusion in what if BioRider and RoboRider combined. Remember, BioRider is kinda elastic and in All Riders vs. DaiShocker, he was able to slow down Kabuto who is faster than he is, and Luna is like that in some point in the series. Homing lasers. While RoboRider wields a gun, put them together, we have LunaTrigger.
General Showa Era

- He can beat Kuuga in the number of forms… before OOO came!
- The police being actually there in the series and does something about the Dopants once they are in human form is enough for me.

- On the arc in which W is called by some girl as his daddy, the girl is holding a doll that kinda looks like Kamen Rider Knight... except it is colorful.

Kamen Rider 555
- Accel Trial has ten seconds to use his Maximum Drive or else, something bad will happen to him. Speaking of a ten-second limit, Faiz Axel has ten seconds for him to be faster than average. Oh, later on, Accel would be like that in Trial form!
Kamen Rider Blade
- The password in the computer owned by BOARD is Double Joker. Wait, what?!
- Speaking of Blade, in Kamen Rider W Forever movie, we have W CycloneGoldJoker Xtreme. This form has a gold center and it flies. Speaking of Riders with a golden center and flies, Blade and Garren’s Jack Form has those.
Kamen Rider Hibiki
- The Memory Gadgets themselves kinda act like the Onis’ Disc Animals due to their nature, plus both deal some minor damage and offer distraction on foes.
- Kamen Rider Eternal’s design anesthetic has the basic elements of the Oni design, the bands on the armor, the hands plus he has a similar color-scheme like that of Kiriya’s Oni form.
Kamen Rider Kabuto
- Fang Memory fighting the monster before the battle, reminds me of the Zecters.
- A cooking battle, well, on the Hyper Battle Video only!
Kamen Rider Den-O
- Let’s see, a two episode arc Detective show with two beings forming a single Rider, and in some instances, there is one character who is overpowering the tandem.
- Oh! Don’t forget, when someone transfers his conscience on the other guy who will fight reminds me of the possession scenes in Den-O.
- Philip wearing glasses while in butler mode in one of Shotaro’s delusions? Urataros, is that you?
- In Den-O, we have Ryotaro, being teased with his niece, Hana. In W, we have Philip, being teased with his older sister, Wakana. The fun thing is, the tables are now turned! Ryotaro is older (Timeline wise) to Hana, while Wakana is older than Philip!
Kamen Rider Kiva
- Kiva is known for its yaoi references… same case with W. *cough*threesome*cough*
- Nago berserks if he doesn’t have his button. While Terui berserks when it is something related to the guy with a W Memory/Shinkuro Isaka. Both events happened in the earlier weeks after their introduction! Also, there are some episodes when we saw their comical side.
Kamen Rider Decade
- Aside from Decade actually appearing in the crossover and split W using a FFR card, speaking of which, Accel’s Bike Form screams like one too.
Shotaro Ishinomori
- Watcherman is a subtle shout out to series creator for one simple reason. When Ishinomori appears in any of his series, he is usually seen fishing or informing the Rider about something relevant to the plot… like where is the enemy base.
- Cockroach Dopant’s user is probably a direct reference to Ishinomori considering that both are manga-ka and wear the same afro.
- Hidari’s first name can be a reference to him.
Kikaider – The Decade Net Movies pointed out that W’s design is like Kikaider.
Kaiketsu Zubat – Kamen Rider Accel’s design screams like that.
JAKQ Dengekitai – a guy wearing white, and wears a hat and awesome, plus, both have the same first name! Sokichi!
Skull Man – Just one Kamen Rider, Kamen Rider Skull. Plus, in the original one-shot, Skull Man wields a gun!
Kamen Rider the First – Rider 1 is referred in the film by Shocker as Hopper. In the series, we have a Hopper Dopant, with a red center for a belt and loves to kick her enemies!
Note: I only place those shows that are created by Shotaro Ishinomori. Some of these shows I personally never got the chance to watch. I was able to come up with those by extensive research in my free time after or before I do my homework.
