Due to the recent events that struck Japan last March 11, the official website for the upcoming Tokyo International Anime Fair 2011 announced that the said event will be cancelled for the sake of the safety of the attendees. The event's staff apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the decision.
TAF takes place annually at the Tokyo Big Sight convention center which suffered unspecified damage due to the earthquake. Another event that was cancelled in the said event center was a Touhou related event. TAF 2011 was originally scheduled to hold industry-only days on March 24-25, and general public days on March 26-27.
This year's TAF is said to be the most controversial due to the Youth Ordinance Bill which caused Kadokawa Shoten and other nine publishers to boycott the said event and created a new event called, Anime Contents Expo, which was set to take place the same weekend at the time of this writing. It is not sure if this event will still continue due to the earthquake.
