In this episode, Rin begins his exorcist training but first, he must study in True Cross Academy as a cover for his Exorcist studies. Meanwhile, this episode felt like watching one episode of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Heck, even the title says it!
This episode is the start of Rin's exorcist training and in the sudden turn of events, it turns out that Yukio is his teacher! That was an unpredictable plot twist... which makes perfect sense in the series considering that Rin is a demon and the only way for a regular human being to become a full-fledged exorcist in this series is that he or she must be injured by a demon.
The episode also focuses on the brothers' relationship with each other, both professional and outside that. Adding this kind of element in this series is a nice touch to add up the possible future tension between the brothers. Makes me think that this series will have a lot of brother focus episodes, kinda like those from Fullmetal Alchemist.
Since Mephisto makes his second appearance in this episode, I will write my thoughts about him and also, my second impression about Yukio after this episode. I love Mephisto! The fact that he works with the Exorcist and the fact that his name is a name of an actual demon, is really awesome! I know, its a shallow explanation to like this guy but asides from that, what I really liked about him is his alternate form as a dog and his weird mentor attitude, and I love weird mentors!
Yukio in this episode was amazing, especially his gun skills which still stuns me till the very end. Also, he has this serious badass attitude once he is in exorcist mode. Yukio is now one of my favorite characters due to his attitude towards his work as an exorcist and his role as the younger brother of Satan's son.
Overall, it was a good episode due to how they explored the contrasting personalities of the brothers and focused more on their relationship. If there is one thing to be disappointed in this episode is that they haven't introduced the other newbie exorcist who are studying in True Cross Academy's cram school.
