It was announced last year that Code Geass will have a spin-off entitled, Code Geass GAIDEN: The Ruined Land of Akito, months later, we have the first character designs and Knightmare Frame designs. It is still unknown as of the moment when will the series be released till Sunrise's Masayuki Ozaki revealed their plans for the Code Geass GAIDEN.
Masayuki Ozaki is the General Manager of Sunrise's Overseas Development confirmed on Sunrise Industry Panel on the recently concluded Otakon that they are looking forward in releasing it next year, although its production is behind schedule. Dubbed by Ozaki as the "next season of Code Geass," and later describes the setting of the series, "in the same world as Lelouch except with different characters (...) the stage is set in Europe, so we'll see a lot of European countries."
The director is Kazuki Akane (The Vision of Escaflowne, Noein - to your other self), Shigeru Morita (Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, Blood+) and Takahiro Kimura once again adapting CLAMP's original character designs for animation, and Akira Yasuda returns to design the mechanical Knightmare units.
