Magic Kaito 'Hijacks' Detective Conan this August!

Shinichi Kudo's other rival, the mysterious Magic Kaito (aka Kaito Kid) will "hijack" Detective Conan's timeslot for four weeks this August for the Magic Kaito Anime Specials!

Magic Kaito centers on a young budding magician named Kaito Kuroba who follows in his late father's footsteps as the legendary thief Kaitō Kid. Not coincidentally, Aoyama also created Detective Conan, and Kaitō Kid has appeared as a rival of the diminutive detective both in the Detective Conan manga and in various anime stories.

The Kaitō Kid episodes will begin on August 6 with Kaitō Kid's Busy Date and continues on August 13 with Her Highness Loves Magic. The specials conclude with the two-part Conan/Kid's Battle for the Ryōma Treasure on August 20 and 27. Comic Natalie describes the upcoming stories as Kaito Kid specials which will run for four straight episodes. The website of Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine describes "all" of the episodes in August as "Kid Specials," but only the first two as "Magic Kaitō Specials."

A Magic Kaito anime special aired last April 2010 as the first anime adaptation of the manga.

Detective Conan JDrama Update

Days ago, we have reported that a Detective Conan JDrama is on the works with the cast members from the third drama special reprising their roles. As July comes closer, more details about this drama has surfaced online.

The main cast from the special will return, including lead actor Mizobata Junpei (Shinichi Kudo), Kutsuna Shiori (Ran Mori), AKB48's Akimoto Sayaka (Sonoko Suzuki), Otsuka Nene (Eri Kisaki, Ran's mom), and Jinnai Takanori (Kogoro Mori, Ran's dad).

Titled Meitantei Conan: Kudo Shinichi e no Chousenjou, it will take place three months before Shinichi Kudo was drugged by the Black Organization and took the alias of Conan Edogawa. The said drama will be a drama where murder cases are solved every episode. Although the specials were all entirely original stories, the upcoming series will include some parts from the original manga by Aoyama Gosho.

Hattori Heiji, the rival of the protagonist Kudo Shinichi, will also appear in live-action form for the first time, though the actor playing the part has not yet been named.

Meitantei Conan: Kudo Shinichi e no Chousenjou, the show will air on NTV in a Thursday 11:58pm time slot, starting on July 7.

Detective Conan JDrama Annouced!

On the 26th issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday will announce that a new Detective Conan live-action TV series is on the works! The said series will premiere on July 7 at 11:58pm in Japan.

Currently, there are three live-action specials of the said manga with Shun Oguri (Hana Yori Dango, Hana-Kimi) portraying the titular character, Shinichi Kudo in the first two specials and Junpei Mizobata (Hana-Kimi, 81diver, Shibatora, High School Debut) in the third special.

The new series will retain the same staff and cast as the third live-action special, including Juppei Mizobata in the title role and Shiori Kutsuna (Mei-chan no Shitsuji, Beck, Gota Keshi: Jidan Kōshōnin Shirai Torajirō) as the heroine Ran. This will be the first live-action series after three specials.

The original manga follows a brilliant detective trapped in a child's body, but the live-action spinoffs have been set before the manga, when the title character was still a teenager.

Junpei Mizobata on Detective Conan's 3rd Live-Action Special!

As we all know, there would be a third Detective Conan live-action special and many hoped that Shun Oguri will reprise his role as the famous teen detective, Shinichi Kudo but recent reports state that Junpei Mizobata (Hana Kimi, Koukou Debut) will play the said role!

Beck (which also stars Takeru Satoh and Hiro Mizushima) Actress, Shiori Kutsuna will play Conan's constant companion and love interest, Ran Mori, will replace Tomoka Kurokawa from the said role.

Mizubata commented about the role, “I’m the generation who grew up watching the anime. When I first received the offer, I felt pressure, but very happy at the same time."

The new special is part of the 15th Anniversary celebration of the television anime series and the related films. The said special will have an original story and the filming will begin by the end of February.

3rd Detective Conan Live Action Special Soon!

On the 10th volume of Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine will announce that the production on a new live-action Detective Conan special is on the works! The last live-action special was a straight to DVD feature called, Shinichi Kudo Returns! Confrontation with the Black Organization (pictured above) which was released last March 23, 2007.

The said special is part of the 15th Anniversary celebration of the television anime series. More details will be in the next volume of the magazine on February 9. It is still not sure if Shun Oguri will reprise his role as Shinichi Kudo nor Nao Fujisaki as Conan. The first live-action special was released for the 10th Anniversary of the said manga/anime series.

I've watched both specials and it revived my interest with the series! Hope that they will add Kaito Kid or Heiji Hattori in the new special!

Detective Conan 15th Anniversary Themes

The popular detective anime, Detective Conan (also known as Case Closed) changed its theme songs beginning last January 8, with tear drops by Caos Caos Caos as their 30th (!) opening theme and the Juugoya Crisis ~Kimi ni Aitai~ by Hundred Percent Free as the show's 37th (!) ending theme.

Caos Caos Caos makes their major debut this year with their opening theme song, tear drops, and Hundred Percent Free made their major debut last year.

In the opening sequence, Nori Shiraishi of Caos Caos Caos appears in animated form, performing a dance found in the music video of the song.


In the past, Conan did a Para-Para Dance (on top) to member Rina Aiuchi’s song, Ai ha Thrill, Shock, Suspense, but this is the first time Rina Aiuchi has directly collaborated on a theme song. On the backside of the jacket for their new single, there will also be an illustration of characters from Detective Conan making signature dance poses. This new single will be released on February 23rd.

In addition, Hundred Percent Free’s Juugoya Crisis ~Kimi ni Aitai~ will be their fourth single release to date and will come out on January 26th.

Detective Conan: Quarter of Silence Revealed

It is confirmed on the official Detective Conan movie website that the 15th Detective Conan film will be called Quarter of Silence. It will be released in Japan in April 16, 2011 to commemorate the 15 years of the popular detective anime/manga written by Gosho Aoyama (Yaiba).

The story begins with a threat against the Tokyo governor, but Conan's quick thinking prevents any fatalities when a subway tunnel is blown up. Conan learns there may be a connection to a village that was relocated for the construction of a dam, and he races to stop the criminal before the next attack.

Wow. The franchise lasted for fifteen years and I am still surprised that here in the Philippines, we are still stuck at Season 6 with some episodes skipped!

Detective Conan - Smooth Criminal AMV

To those who have watched Detective Conan back in GMA back in the early '02-'03 (I forgot the exact year), they use Alien Antfarm's cover of Smooth Criminal in their Detective Conan ads, hence I got really interested in this show! Here's an AMV in less than a minute using that song, this time, the original Michael Jackson version!

I also spotted two more Detective Conan AMV's using the Alien Antfarm cover, but those videos were either mediocre or country restricted due to copyright claims.

Detective Conan is still airing on local TV here but they skipped a lot of episodes, losing the substance of Black Organization in the long run and made much focus on the detective bit. Aside from that, they are planning to air the live-action adaptation of Detective Conan this year... but since its November, they might air it next year due to their timeslots filled with KDrama.

GMA Anime Block Fights Back!

 Will GMA prove that they are Philippines' Premiere Anime Authority? This case is just brewing.

GMA has this tradition of announcing their new anime shows during the Holy Week and from the shows that they announced last year, only 4 aired. Now, GMA announced that they will air Shin Mazinger Z, the live action adaptation of Detective Conan and new episodes of Pokemon (Probably Battle Frontier onwards), Doraemon and Detective Conan.

Considering their current anime achievements namely: they were able to air the first half of One Piece’s Water 7 Arc, Bleach’s Arrancar and Huenco Mundo Arcs, the last Hunter X Hunter OVA, Hajime no Ippo: Champion Road OVA and currently, they are airing Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger under the Knockout! Title, I have a baaad feeling about Shin Mazinger Z. Considering that they were not able to finish the original Mazinger Z according to this article.

At the end of the day, the big question is, can they prove that they are the premiere  ANIME AUTHORITY here in the Philippines like what they said? Or the brand the Anime Authority title is just a misnomer for them?
