The Prince of Tennis: Echizen Ryoma 02

the prince of tennis cosplay - echizen ryoma 2
Source: Get News

A twelve-year-old tennis prodigy who won four consecutive Junior Tennis Tournaments in America, Echizen Ryoma is the son of Echizen Nanjiro, a former tennis pro nicknamed “Samurai Nanjiro”. At his father’s request, Ryoma returned to Japan in order to attend Seishun Academy, also known as “Seigaku”, which is a private middle school famous for its tennis team. His arrogance often leads him to constant arguments with both his opponents and upperclassmen, but he is usually able to back up his statements with his tennis skills. Throughout the story, Ryoma continues to find and develop his own playing style and techniques instead of merely being a copy of his father.

This cosplayer’s just adorable! And am I seeing things or is that Shinomori Aoshi from Rurouni Kenshin on the left? Thanks again to Lira for sending this in!

Takei herself added that she is very delighted to be part of a live-action adaptation of a manga that so many adore, and she will do her best.

Rurouni Kenshin Live-Action Movie Confirmed

We have reported almost a year ago that Takeru Satoh (Kamen Rider Den-O, Rookies, Beck, Ryōmaden) is said to play Kenshin Himura in an upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular manga/anime, Rurouni Kenshin. Just recently, it is confirmed that the upcoming film will be released next year!

Keishi Ōtomo will direct Satoh on this new film, just as he did in last year's NHK historical television series Ryōmaden. Warner Brothers Pictures Japan is producing with its president William Ireton, while Studio Swan (Paradise Kiss) is in charge of the actual film production.

The staff also aims to release the film internationally and eventually, turn it into a TV series. This will be the first live-action adaptation of the manga.

Producer Shinzō Matsuhashi commented, "Satoh has the looks and stature to be a proper Kenshin." Watsuki added that when this project was just starting, he and his wife were discussing who should play Kenshin, and decided that Satoh topped the list.

Satoh himself said that he was a huge fan of the original manga when he was in elementary school and when the manga was still running. "It was the manga that everyone in my generation knew." He added that he and his friends would play around by pretending to sword-fight. Satoh began intensive training in sword-fighting earlier this month, and filming will begin in July.

Preparations for the project started about 3 years ago, and Satoh was offered the role after his appearance in Ryomaden. Other cast members for the movie will be revealed later, and the film is scheduled to hit theatres in 2012.

UPDATE 7/6/11: The staff for the upcoming film is now conducting open auditions for volunteer extras in the film. Applicants can be of any age or gender, and must apply between now and the end of October. Shooting for the film will take place in the Kansai and Shikoku regions of Japan.

So... chances that he might return for a Den-O 5th Anniversary movie might be slim then. Aw.

FLOW's Cover of 1/3 no Junjou na Kanjou Revealed!

We have reported last time that FLOW, best known for singing the theme songs for Naruto and Code Geass has recorded a cover of the classic ending theme song of Rurouni Kensin called, 1/3 no Junjou na Kanjou by Siam Shade. Before its release on March 9th, just recently, someone uploaded the cover online!

As fan of the classic 90's song, asides that they gave its own spin, I say it is pretty acceptable. Because of this, I suddenly missed the classic "girly-man" vocals of the song.

What do you guys think? Did FLOW gave justice of this classic Rurouni Kenshin theme song? If you like it, support the artist by getting your copies here:

Rurouni Kenshin: Saisen Extends till Jinchu Arc

This is for my sister you x-scarred girly man!

It was first hinted on the debut trailer that Kenshin's former brother in-law, Yukishiro Enishi will make appearance on the upcoming Rurouni Kenshin 15th Anniversary game, Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan Saisen. Just recently, Famitsu confirms it with more screenshots of Enishi's lackeys, Inui and Otowa!

To those who don't know Enishi, he appeared after the Kyoto Arc in the original manga. His only anime appearance was on the OVA called, Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal. Enishi never made an actual appearance in the original TV series due it to it being canceled because of low ratings due to the amount of filler episodes.

His mission? To take revenge on Kenshin for what he did years ago and give Kenshin his own judgment (in Japanese, jinchu which opposes Kenshin's tenchu which means judgment upon the heavens) and thus, along with his relationship with Enishi, Kenshin's past love affair with his sister, Tomoe and more of Kenshin's dark past are slowly being revealed.

Anyways, here are some screenshots with Enishi's lackeys, Inui and Otowa! Since I haven't started reading the original manga yet, I will leave the judgment on who's who to you.

Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan Saisen is available in the Sony Playstation Portable gaming platform. It costs Y5860 and will be released on March 10, 2011.

Seta Soujiro vs. Kenshin! And I will miss his foot tapping.

Sano vs. Anji!

Chou, whipping his extremely flexible sword!

Kenshin's master, Hiko Seijuro shows this bug lug, Fuji how to fight!

Henya, posing!

Iwambo being Iwambo.

Misao kicks that girly man, Katamari! (No seriously, he is a guy wearing woman's clothing!)

Aaand more Shishio, now fighting Aoshi!

The game will be released on March 10, 2011 as part of Rurouni Kenshin’s 15th anniversary of the anime.

Rurouni Kenshin PSP Game Promo!

To celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Nobuhiko Watsuki's popular anime, Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X, a new fighting game for the PSP called, Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan Saisen will be released this March 10 in Japan! Here is the promo for the said game.

Yep, Kenshin, Kaori, Yahiko (or Yoshi if you watched the Sony dub), Sanosuke are in this game... and so is the Juppon Gatana! The only thing that bothered me is that they never included other characters that appeared in the manga! Oh well, this game only celebrates the 15th Anniversary of the anime so its given they are not here.

FLOW Covers 1/3 no Junjo no Kanjo!

To start their 2011, FLOW will cover Siam Shade's classic hit , 1/3 no Junjo no Kanjo! The single is slated for release on March 9, 2011. This song is also known as Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X)'s ending theme which was released back in 1997.

For this single, guitarist DAITA from Siam Shade will make a guest appearance. Last year DAITA held his 15th anniversary live, One Night Special Band with KOHSHI on vocals and they performed this same song. The FLOW members are said to have been fans of Siam Shade, and after the event the two decided to do a collaboration.

To begin with, I am a FLOW fan and to add it up, I am also a Rurouni Kenshin fan, reading, copyng and pasting and editing this news article cause me goosebumps and to go unleash my fangasm in everytime I read it. I can't believe it to begin with! Heck, I was surprised that FLOW are fans of Siam Shade! Anyways, I can't wait for the release of the single!

Hope the roster of playable characters would be nice. As seen in this scan, it seems that along with Kenshin, Hajime Saito, Aoshi and Sanosuke will be part as well. Hope that Shishio and the entire Jupon Gatana will be part!

Kenshin Himura is Takeru Sato

It is confirmed. Plans for adapting a live-action film adaption of Nobuhiko Watsuki's Rurouni Kenshin (Also known as Samurai X in South East Asia) is on the works, with Takeru Sato (Kamen Rider Den-O's Ryotaro Nogami, Bloody Monday's Otoya) playing the role of the X-scared samurai.

There were also rumors of Kenshin being played by Miura Haruma, Oguri Shun, Ikuta Toma, etc. but the staff settled on Sato Takeru as they saw him to be more fit for the role.

There are plans back then to adapt this film but due to the technology, they can't pursue with the plan. There also offers coming from Hollywood to adapt this film but Watsuki declined those offers.

Source: Entate

Considering that Takeru will play as Kenshin, I have no problem with it, I mean he was able to pull off playing 6 different personalities in Kamen Rider Den-O, then he can pull of playing Kenshin who is best known for his two sides, the friendly and peaceful one and his darker side, Battousai.

Top 5 Iconic Anime Shows: Philippine Edition

Currently popular mainstream, but will this show became an icon in the near future?

Anime has been around here in the Philippines since the 70’s and since then, we have seen numerous titles from giant robots until love stories. From the over 100 titles that was aired on terrestrial TV, some of them were iconic and remains as one of the most recognizable anime titles that ever stepped in the Philippines.

My criteria in choosing these top 5 shows is via the age group that was born during or before the 90’s, which is considered by most as the Golden Age of Anime here in the Philippines. Other criteria include the recall factor of the show and its impact on pop culture or otaku culture here in the Philippines. If you have reactions, kindly post your comments. :D

5. Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X
This show made a huge wave in the anime scene here in the Philippines. Aside from the fact that this show aired here in its English Sony dub in which Kenshin sounds like a certain Cloud Strife, it’s the only English dubbed anime aside from Pokemon that is unforgettable to the public.

Sidenote: This show was dubbed in ABS-CBN back then but the dub is not as popular as the English dub.

4. DragonBall Z
What made this show iconic is aside from the battles, is Jefferson Utanes’ voice acting as Son Goku with his trademark, “Kamehame Wave” scream echoing on your TV. Aside from that, we have this, Mr. Satan best known here as Master Pogi and Majin Buu.

Master Pogi because he is one of the most recognizable voices in the DBZ dub, I mean, you will smile once you heard his voice along with that is Majin Buu, the fat one. Put them together, these two became one of the most iconic duos we have ever scene in TV.

3. Slam Dunk
When it first aired back in ABC (now known as TV5), it was not well received by the audience. Fast forward sometime between 2003-2005, this time dubbed, this show in my opinion, became the standard on comedy anime dubbing. Aside from the good translation of the script and making the show closer to the masses, the mass appeal of Basketball to us Filipinos made this show memorable.

2. Yu Yu Hakusho/Ghost Fighter and Flame of Recca
I had a haaard time thinking which of the two is more iconic, Eugene or Recca. Both headlined GMA’s anime block, both shows are constantly being re-aired on the said station. Both have epic fights, both shows had a memorable dubbing crew; kids were imitating both shows. Gaah! It is hard to decide which is more iconic than the two!

1. Voltes V
This is the obvious choice. Its one of the shows back in the 70’s that is still haunting Filipinos everywhere. It is the only anime that has the most station jumps. Its one of the shows back in the Martial Law era that was banned because it is too violent and it affects the studying of children.

It is part of Pinoy pop culture this show’s theme song and its phrase before combining all the mecha. You can see this song on karaoke machines along with Ghost Fighter’s Opening theme.

Special Mention:
+ Pokemon
One word, Jejemon. LOL.

Kenshin

Here are a couple of hot pics of Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin to start your work week.
