In this first episode of Kakuranger, we have two idiots, a princess and pervy narrator and lastly, ninjas! The series opens with a narration by our narrator that tells us that years ago, that five ninjas, Sasuke Sarutobi, Saizou Kirigakure, Seikai Miyoshi, Jiraiya and Tsuruhime sealed a demon named Nurarihyon and years later, two guys named Sasuke and Saizou, decendants of the ninjas, Sasuke and Saizou (duh!) were tricked by a Kappa to break the seal! Now, with the help of Tsuruhime transforms into the Kakurangers!
If there is one thing that I hated about Kakuranger is the narrator. There is nothing wrong with having a narrator in a series but seeing a narrator narrting stuff is kinda distracting. I prefered that he is a guy who tells the story about the Kakurangers in front of his grandchildren than being some old man who just popped in front of you and tells you about ninjas and his love for touching a chick’s ass.
For our duo, Sasuke and Saizou, I find Sasuke some guy you can rely on a bit while as for Saizou, he is one heck of coward that likes money. To be honest, Sasuke has this vibe that he would be a good field leader but seeing how he acted in their first fight as ninjas, I was a bit disappointed. But hey, it is still the first episode! As for Tsuruhime, she is awesome. I love how she fights and how she acted out her responsibility as the leader of this pack of ninjas.
If there is one thing that is unique about this series is the comic book sound effects, and it is really entertaining! It adds up to the silliness of this series asides that we have a quite a narrator! As for the action scenes, it was fun to watch, especially how Ninja White owns every one of the foot soldiers! But as for Ninja Red and Ninja Blue, even if they are the men, they are very disappointing in the battlefield, oh well, since this is their first time, I could let this pass.
Overall, the first episode of Kakuranger is a fun watch. The chemistry between Sasuke and Saizou makes it a worthwhile view. Also, how they opened the series was something. Asides that they gave them background that they are descendants of famed ninjas, the fact that their spirit made an appearance when they gave the Doron Changers was awesome. My only disappointment asides from the narrator is the lack of ninja action in the first episode by our male ninjas.
