With the release of Gokaiger - Goseiger - Super Sentai: 199 Hero Great Battle this week, one lucky Rangerboard member was able to watch the film in Japan and he answered questions coming from fellow Rangerboard folks about the film!
Q: How was the music and effects?
A: SFX were top notch (lots of lasers). The sound mixing was excellent. The music had a lot of stuff from the show, but there was a slow piano version of the theme they played which was stunning.
Q: The big one for me (and definitely a lot of people) is this: was there a giant robot that combined from all 35 main bots, or was it just one massive finisher attack?
A: A massive finisher attack.
Q: Were any powers unlocked?
A: Nothing that will ever take effect in the show. There was a combination of GokaiOh and Goranger's Variblune (which looked pretty sweet), but it was one of those things that they gave no hint of introducing in the show.
Q: Did the robots take turns attacking (old footage)?
A: The robots actually did (mostly sword slash attacks). It was recycled footage, but that was part of its charm.
Q: Did the Gokaiger interact with any of the legends beside Goseiger?
A: Hmm...define interact? Toward the end, past spirits came up and sort of encouraged the team. The team just sort of nodded, though, so I wouldn't really count that as interacting.
Q: Any surprise guest stars?
A: [unclear]
Q: Did DaiGoyou (lantern from Shinkenger) appear and/or reference the last time he saw the Gokaigers?
A: Not mentioned in the least.
Q: Did GokaiSilver in fact appear at the very end?
A: At the very end. Think Accel in the first "Double" movie.
Q: Was the 10 Extra heroes fighting in the present or a flashback?
A: In the flashback. That was actually pretty interesting for a couple reasons - more in the summary.
Q: Was GoseiKnight locked in the key?
A: Yes
Q: Finally, how was the battle between the multiple Megazords and the giant enemies?
A: I'm not one for Megazord fights, but it was decent. The robots took out the giant enemies (one enemy, two robots), then they defeated the final boss. Was it ever confirmed who the final boss was before the movie?
Q: What role did the past Sentai actors play in the movie, the ones returning besides the Goseiger cast?
A: RyuRanger, DekaPink and DenziBlue were involved in a sub-plot that sort of comes back round later in the movie (summary soon). They are on for about five minutes. At the end of the Legend War, we see BoukenRed and GoOnYellow along with ShinkenGreen and Gold. We later see BoukenRed and GoOnYellow later show up for brief reaction shots. Some older heroes later come in spirit-only to give encouragement.
Q: How many robots were actually suits and how many were CGI/Stock?
A: The far shots were mostly CGI. If a robot was fighting one of the giant bosses, it was real. Difficult to say off the top of my head. I'd actually wager most of them were real because they were also doing movements in the Long Shots.
Q: No need to list them all of the top of your head, but were there any that seemed especially cool to you? (talking about team on team battles)
A: They all faced off against their respective colour. For example, Don and Agri faced off against the Green/Black Rangers. One fight that did particularly stand out, though was: Don and Agri vs. Black/Green Rangers: Don was on a cliff above Agri and wasn't holding off well against the Black Rangers. Meanwhile, Agri (in Super GoseiBlack form), was taking down the Greens with relative ease. Don runs away and jumps down the cliff, landing right on top of GoseiBlack.
He lands on front of him like how one might ride on someone's back(I think Don's done this before). GoseiBlack was like, "What are you doing?" and Don told him to watch out. Black Rangers were crashing through the air. Agri dodged and flipped Don onto a ninty-degree angle and spun him around in a circle while shooting at the clone Rangers. Once they all reverted back to Ranger Keys, Agri dropped him to the ground.
Also, another thing to note, one poster from 4chan's /m/ board mentioned that according to a Japanese fan the Gokaigers got 11 new grand powers thanks to the scene in the movie where where the human forms of the guest actors show up in spirit and encourage the Gokaigers and Goseigers.
The powers they got in the movie are: Goranger (GorenGokaiOh, its finisher is called Gokai Hurricane Cassiopeia), JAKQ, Denziman, Goggle Five, Dynaman, Bioman, Turboranger, Dairanger, Boukenger, Go-onger and Goseiger (as seen in GokaiSilver's tribute episode).
Which leaves the following Grand Powers to unlock: Battle Fever J, Sun Vulcan, Changeman, Flashman, Maskman, Liveman, Fiveman, Jetman, Kakuranger, Ohranger, Megaranger, Gingaman, GogoV and Hurricanger (Furaimaru mecha to be released soon).
