Hiro Mizushima's highly anticipated debut novel KAGEROU was published on December 15, and Oricon has now released some sales data for the book. In the five days following its release, it sold 351,000 copies, reaching #1 on the weekly book rankings!

Oricon started tracking book sales in April 2008, and this is the first time that an author's debut work has been #1 on the book charts (over all categories).

In the two and a half years of Oricon's book charts, KAGEROU has the 3rd highest first-week sales, behind J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows with 1.191 million and Haruki Murakami's 1Q84 Book 3 with 398,000.

KAGEROU was chosen as the winner of the 5th Poplar Publishing Grand Prize for Fiction in October, and it was quickly approved for publication. Reports at the start of this month indicated that the book had received more than 400,000 pre-orders, as of two weeks before the release date. Poplar had initially printed 430,000 copies for the launch on December 15, but with many stores selling out that same morning, Poplar placed an order the next day for another 250,000 copies to be printed. As of December 22, 760,000 copies have been printed.

Hiro Mizushima's Press Conference on Kagerou

Yesterday, Hiro Mizushima (Tokyo Dogs, Kamen Rider Kabuto, Gokusen 2) under his real name, Saito Tomohiro who just won the Poplar Publishing Grand Prize for Fiction with his first novel, Kagerou.

Just yesterday, November 1st, he made his appearance on a press conference. This would be his first public appearance after two months of not showing up.

“I feel obliged to receive this honorable award. I’m grateful that my very first work was chosen as grand prize among many entries, especially since it was evaluated without recognizing ‘Mizushima Hiro’s name," Mizushima said.

The winner of the Poplar Publishing Grand Prize for Fiction receives a prize amount of 20 million yen, however, according to his new management agency, A stAtion, Mizushima declined the prize. The reason for his declination, is that Mizushima wants them to use the money to assist new talented writers.

Mizushima also talked about the rumor of him being kicked out from Kenon (his previous agency), because he got married with Ayaka without telling the agency. Mizushima emphasized that he was the one who left the agency, and the relationship with the agency is still good. According to Mizushima, he will start creating things related to ‘life’, which is the most important theme to everybody.

Hiro Mizushima Leaves Talent Agency

Hiro Mizushima (BECK, Kamen Rider Kabuto, Tokyo Dogs, Gokusen 2), has left his talent agency, Ken-on on September 20 to focus on his writing career. The said actor, apparently is interested on writing according to our sources from Tokyo Graph. After discussing this on the management, his departure was then decided.

As a fan of one of his roles, Souji Tendou, it would be fun if he would create a character similar to Tendou... or someone who quotes something from her grandma!

Tendou's Wife is An Awesome Singer.

Not exactly Souji Tendou of Kamen Rider Kabuto but his actor, Hiro Mizushima. He was married to a singer named Ayaka. To be honest, I am not a big fan of Ayaka so I don’t care if he married to the Man Who Walks the Path of Heaven… until I watched one episode of a TV show in NHK World, that is when I realized, Hiro is one lucky dude.

Aside that Ayaka is beautiful, she is a great singer. After hearing one song, which started first in acapella then the music of the song started playing. I was like, wow, even I don’t understand what she is saying, and the song touched my heart. If you don’t have the idea, here’s the concert video of the song, Minna Sora no Shita.

To end my post, the literal translation of the song is related to what Souji Tendou/KR Kabuto always did, the song’s literally translation is We Belong in the Same Sky. How is that for the Tendou reference? Hope that the two will have a happy marriage and someday, we will see either young Hiros or young Ayakas wearing a Kamen Rider Kabuto costume! :)
