Can’t think of a better episode title but anyways, that is how the episode went, yet another Super Sentai parody but unlike the other Super Sentai parody I reviewed weeks ago, this parody had an origin story! Let’s begin with the review shall we?
The Prince of Dogura selected a five elementary school kids with attitude (?) to become the team of spandex clad heroes called, Color Rangers! Their first mission is to fight their teacher who turned out to be an alien assassin and wants to kill our five heroes! Will the Color Rangers learn their powers before they start blowing stuff thanks to their transformation? Or this would be yet another one of Prince’s random schemes like the first three episodes of this series?
The episode is like your average Super Sentai origin story except that we have an idiot Prince who decides to recruit elementary school students not teenagers or like what most Sentai shows back in the 70’s and 80’s do is hire some soldiers! Let’s describe the kids: Red is supposed to be the Leader but turned out to be one of those bumbling Red Rangers… except his “bumbling-ness” is much higher and he is not that competent. Blue and Yellow are the ones who seem fit for the leader role, White is the rich kid while Black is the one who doesn’t care.
I find Red, Blue and Yellow the ones standing out in the team since Black and White are pretty much in the standard Sentai trope, sure, Yellow here is similar to the other two male Yellows in Super Sentai but he has a different attitude compared to them!
As for the entire episode plot, it was a little average for me. Sure, I laughed at the scenes especially the last few minutes of the episode in which it is revealed that their teacher, which turned out to be an alien, has no plans in killing anyone here on Earth! But there is something missing in this episode, that is the helmets in their costumes in the costume side and more Sentai throwbacks in the episode side. I guess we will see more of those in the next episode! Speaking of Sentai throwbacks, they actually pointed out that most teams never had a manual but they immediately knew how to use their powers!
The Prince in this episode is just the same old Prince except he wears a tight white spandex, practices in his guitar and let Craft carry a key for unlocking the wristbands being worn by the Color Rangers! Poor Craft, he will be dead by the next episode… if the kids had enough level to beat him up!
Speaking of Leveling, I love that they inserted RPG elements in their powers. It actually adds the fun in watching this episode and make things complicated for the Rangers! Seriously, the scene in which Red uses his ability is still stuck in my head! Seriously, can he beat up the assassin with that tiny flame?!
Overall, it is yet another funny episode of Level E. Even if it is another episode, which involves Sentai references and major RPG reference, it is not that satisfying for fans of the said genres but to those who are just casual viewers, you will find it quite a fun episode. Can’t wait to see Craft in action again!
