TV5 & Animax, Big Winners on Otaku's Verdict 2010!

...and the results are in!

Last January 16, Sunday, ZEN Otaku Honbu has released the results of Otaku's Verdict 2010 via their results show. Even with some technical issues, they were able to pursue with the job of telling us the winners of OV 2010 and here is the lowdown of the winners! You can check the list of nominees, you can check it here. This is by the way, the fifth year of Otaku's Verdict.

Terrestrial TV

- TV5 won as Channel of the Year for Terrestrial TV. This is the third time they won this award.

- Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood on TV5 won Anime of the Year, Platinum Category

- D.Gray-Man on TV5 won Anime of the Year, Gold Category

- My Bride is a Mermaid on Studio 23 won Anime of the Year, Silver Category

And for the first time in the history of Otaku's Verdict, the Anime Status Rating for 2010 was rated EXCELLENT by Pinoy anime fans! Most fans have mixed reactions with the result considering the year we have in terms of anime. Like, Nick on ABS-CBN, TV5 ANiMEGA in a state of comatose but gave us amazing titles this year and the like.

Aside from that, Federico "Freddie" M. Garcia (FMG) is awarded by Otaku's Verdict as the 1st OV IMPACT Award winner for 2010 for his contribution in the Philippine Anime Scene. This OV IMPACT Award was voted and debated by the executive committee of Otaku's Verdict along with some of its partners (to be exact, Orends: Range). Wondering what is his contribution and who are the other nominees with this award? Just wait for the full article that will be written by ZOH!

Garcia was cited for his invaluable achievement for Philippine Anime scene when he was the head of GMA-7 during the Marcos Era when the network aired Voltes V. He was also the first to initiate the use of Filipino language on all foreign series, which includes anime.

Negima!? Second Series and Zoids Genesis Premieres on Studio 23!

It was announced on PinoyExchange Forums via elirose, a reliable source that the second Negima?! anime is set to premiere on Studio 23 this September 11, Saturday at 10:30-11:00am. Because of this, Digimon Savers will air at 9:30-10:00am while Skyland will air from 10:00-10:30am.

Aside from this, their weekday block will have some adjustments, Zoids Genesis is set to premiere this September 8, causing Monster Allergy to move in a much later timeslot at 9:30-10:00am, replacing Metajets on the process.

To those who remembered, Zoids Genesis once aired at ABS-CBN along with Naruto Shippuden every afternoon.

Studio 23, The New QTV in Terms of Anime?

With Nick shows airing on ABS-CBN this July, many Kapamilya anime fans were disappointed because of this move BUT their sister station, Studio 23 seems to be airing more anime titles right now plus some of the titles they aired never aired on ABS-CBN before. Does it mean that Studio 23 is the new QTV in terms of anime?

To those who don’t know, most of the so-called “unknown” anime titles that GMA had acquired all end up in QTV but those said shows gained their sister station more fame in the anime community. Titles such as Kaleido Star, Prince of Tennis, Tsubasa Chronicle and Hayate the Combat Butler all ended up airing on QTV. If my memory serves me correctly, QTV won the Terrestrial Anime Channel of the Year in Otaku’s Verdict year ago!

Based on the current move, it seems like it. I mean, Bakegyamon and Seto no Hanoyame never aired on ABS-CBN! While the rest, are reruns coming from ABS-CBN plus, they had three Digimon shows being aired on the said channel! Namely, Tamers, Frontier and Savers plus we have Eureka 7, one of the most anticipated titles back then. To top it all up, they air the show with no cuts!

It seems that TV5 will have a tight competition with Studio 23. My only problem with Studio 23 right now is this, too many shampoo commercials!

New Anime Line-Up on Studio 23 Starting Today!

Since the World Cup has just ended with Spain winning, with a newly emptied timeslot, Studio 23 placed new anime programs in their block plus some tokusatsu shows!

Note that Monster Allergy and Metajets are not anime.

Is it me or Studio 23 is becoming like QTV back in its early years based on the current situation that ABS-CBN has right now.

New Anime Titles Set to Premiere this July on Studio 23

Title says it all and the picture says it all. To be honest, the new anime titles seems promising. I am very excited this Saturday for the premiere of Gallery Fake. Too bad, I missed Eureka 7 due to my classes. :(

Also, I can't wait for Seto no Hanayome/My Bride is a Mermaid! I must wake up early then.

Confirmed. Gallery Fake Premieres on Studio 23; Blood + Returns

It's official, Gallery Fake will really air on Studio 23. Last time, it was advertised that it will air on Mondays to Fridays on a 6:30pm timeslot but it was canceled, instead we have reruns of Justice League.

Just like the previous promo, it will air on English and based on the accent by the minor old man, local Filipino dubbers will dub it. It's been a while! The last time that I remembered was Digimon Adverture and Digimon Zero Two!

Gallery Fake premieres this July 3 at 6:30pm, every Saturday and Sunday on Studio 23 replacing Pilipinas Got Talent.

Meanwhile, Saya and her sword are back with reruns of Blood +. To those who remembered, Blood + aired back on Studio 23 alongside with the Filipino dub of Gun X Sword. Blood + returns on Studio 23 at 6pm replacing Pilipinas Got Talent.

Akuei & Gachinpo Heads on Studio 23!

According to an article of ZEN Otaku Honbu, Seto no Hayame and Akuei & Gachinpo will air on Studio 23. Just earlier, while watching Kailangan Kita, a Filipino film featuring Aga Mulach and Claudine Baretto, an advertisement about Akuei & Gachinpo.

According to the ad, Akuei & Gachinpo premieres this July 3 on 8:30am, replacing Digimon Savers on the timeslot. I think I should registering for Studio 23's Catch Up TV.

Gunparade March Premieres on Studio 23!

Studio 23 seems to be fighting back in terms of anime! A new anime, Gunparade March is set to premiere this May 18, at 10 am replacing Justice League Unlimited. Gunparade March is an anime set on an alternate timeline which takes place after World War II in which the war ended with aliens conquering earth.

Another anime is set to return on Studio 23! Yes, the tandem on Ban and Ginji known as GetBackers is back! GetBackers returns on May 18, at 10:30 am replacing Justice League Unlimited.

Both shows will air Mondays-Fridays on their respective timeslots.

Now the question is, will they continue on airing Gallery Fake? Remember, the show's premiere was canceled months ago even if they did promote the show. 

Digimon Tamers Premieres on Studio 23!

Digimon Tamers is coming back to free TV via Studio 23! As we all know, Digimon Tamers aired on Cartoon Network Philippines via Singaporean English dub and on ABS-CBN and Hero TV in Filipino. I never got an interest in watching this series back then since this show has no connection with the previous chosen children but I think I would give this show a shot.

Digimon Tamers airs this Saturday, May 15 at 9am only on Studio 23.

Signs That You Are A Pinoy Watching Anime.

GX dub didn’t use the 4Kids names or the Japanese names, instead they used a different set of names, example, Syrus is called Paolo and Bastion is called Rocky. Jaden is no exception; he was called Judei, mainly because of a certain “Judai” who is a girl.

• You miss the old GMA.

• For those living outside Manila, you noticed that Rockman. EXE, after its season ended, when it returned, you watched Rockman. EXE Stream.

• You have been watching the same Doraemon and Detective Conan (At least they showed 3-5 new episodes!) episodes.

• You love TV5… and waiting for new titles coming from that station, Lucky*Star will air on TV5 according to OtakuZine!

• You were shocked when you learn via the internet that we were first to acquire Naruto outside Japan.

• You were sad when you learned that Marky Cielo died best known for as Zaido Green and dubbed Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach. In addition, you felt Ichigo is not Ichigo in the Filipino dub.

• You keep on watching reruns of Slam Dunk, Yu Yu Hakusho, Flame of Recca, and you watched Voltes V in both English and Filipino, in addition, you watched Voltes V in more than one station.

• You watched Hunter X Hunter before America did.

• You pronounced Hunter X Hunter as Hunter Eks Hunter, not Hunter Hunter like in the original Japanese dub. It goes for Gun X Sword.

• You got the chance to watch the Hana Yori Dango and the show was dubbed with the same VA’s who did Meteor Garden but you didn’t finished it because in my case, regional TV, in Meteor Garden fans, you prefer DAO MING SE!

• You got the chance to watch the anime marathons on Studio 23. Shows on marathon are Fruits Basket, Naruto, Samurai X and Duel Masters.

• You got a chance to read Questor Magazine and heard rumors about the magazine’s “hidden pages.”
